This is a forwarded adv from John, a friend of mine.
He owns a beautiful ultra centennial lugger that despite the age is kept in pristine conditions. I spent a couple of weeks as crew in his lugger and I enjoyed every minute on it. I can’t really say if I enjoyed most managing such a charming boat or spending time in the saloon or on deck with the Captain chatting forever and sharing good food.
John is actually looking for crew.
“Volunteer crew are needed now and up until October for West Cornwall Lugger Ripple to go sailing. That is regularly on Sundays plus to special places, including overnight, maritime events and festivals on both sides of the Channel.
Sailing times will be 9-5.30pm from Newlyn Harbour in Cornwall. Sailing or boat experience preferred but not essential. Commitment to regular sailing required. Any age. Provide your own sailing clothing, also sleeping bag and food if you wish to stay on board and for longer trips.
The time sailing on Ripple is qualifying experience for RYA Yachtmaster Certificates and learning how to sail a lugger and develop skills to do it with others will prove valuable and provide you with basic sailing seamanship which can be used on all types of sailing boats.
Ripple needs a crew who are committed to working together to develop these skills as a team to really handle Ripple for the best performance.
The next event is the Looe Lugger Regatta 14th to 16th June, a good show from a West Cornwall Lugger is expected so skills need to be polished up beforehand.
